Neighborhoods & Real Estate

FOUR NEIGHBORHOODS. FOUR DIFFERENT LIVES. WHICH ONE IS YOURS?

~6.5 hours · Private · Hotel pickup & drop-off

Where would you actually live in Panama City?

Explore four very different residential areas, get a practical introduction to the rental market, and discover which version of life in Panama City might fit you best.

Choosing a place to live is about much more than finding a nice apartment.

The neighborhood around it determines how you’ll actually experience everyday life: urban or green, walkable or car-dependent, high-rise or house, right in the middle of the city or a little farther away.

On this private relocation tour, I’ll show you four very different residential areas rather than rushing through a long list of neighborhoods.

We’ll explore Costa del Este, San Francisco, El Cangrejo, and Clayton, each offering a distinctly different way of living in Panama City.

Along the way, I’ll also introduce you to the practical side of renting in Panama: lease terms, deposits, additional costs, and what you can expect for your budget.

This experience is about helping you understand where you could actually imagine living.

What You'll Explore

  • Four distinctly different residential areas
  • Costa del Este: modern, planned, upscale and self-contained
  • El Cangrejo: walkable, lively, and more affordable
  • San Francisco: urban, central, and the neighborhood I call home
  • Clayton: green, quiet, and close to the rainforest
  • A 360-degree orientation view from a rooftop in San Francisco
  • A practical introduction to Panama City’s rental market
  • Lease terms, deposits, and typical additional costs
  • A rental apartment viewing, when available
  • Different housing styles, from high-rise apartments to townhouses and family homes
  • Plenty of time for questions along the way

How It Works

1. I PICK YOU UP

I’ll pick you up at your hotel in Panama City. Before we start exploring, I’ll give you a practical introduction to the local rental market and some of the terms and costs you’ll encounter when looking for a home in Panama.

We’ll also talk about one principle I particularly recommend when moving here:

First rent, then buy.

The idea behind the day is simple: experience several very different ways of living first and see which one actually feels right for you.

2. WE EXPLORE COSTA DEL ESTE

We’ll start in Costa del Este, a modern, upscale, planned neighborhood that feels almost like a city within the city.

High-rise apartments with ocean views, gated townhouse communities, shopping, healthcare, and international schools are all part of the picture.

It’s one of the more expensive areas we’ll visit and particularly interesting if you’re looking for a modern environment with much of everyday life close by.

3. I SHOW YOU THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHERE I LIVE

Next, we’ll head to San Francisco, my own neighborhood. One of the best ways to understand this part of Panama City is from above, so I’ll take you to a rooftop for a 360-degree orientation view.

From there, you can see San Francisco as well as Obarrio, Punta Pacífica, Paitilla, and El Cangrejo and get a much better sense of how these central neighborhoods fit together.

When available, we’ll also visit a rental apartment to give you a real-world impression of what a particular budget can get you in a particular location. The apartment viewing necessarily depends on what is available around the date of your tour.

4. WE WALK EL CANGREJO

From San Francisco, we’ll continue to El Cangrejo and Via Argentina.

This part of the city feels different again: walkable, mixed-use, lively, and less polished, with apartments, cafés, restaurants, bars, and small businesses all sharing the same neighborhood.

It’s also noticeably more affordable than areas such as Costa del Este.

We’ll stop for lunch along the way, giving us time to take a break and talk about your impressions so far.

5. WE EXPERIENCE THE GREENER SIDE OF CITY LIFE

Our final residential area is Clayton.

Formerly part of the US Canal Zone, Clayton offers a completely different version of life in Panama City: greener, quieter, and much closer to the rainforest.

Instead of high-rise towers, you’ll find more single-family homes and smaller residential buildings. It’s farther from the city center and having a car becomes considerably more useful here.

6. I TAKE YOU BACK TO YOUR HOTEL

After our Neighborhood & Real Estate experience, I’ll drive you back to your hotel in Panama City.

The entire experience, including hotel pickup and drop-off, takes approximately 6.5 hours.
